What are Happy Clothes?
Psychologist Kate Pine explains in her book “Psychology of Fashion” that our clothing influences our mood, well-being and happiness.
For her studies, Kate surveyed many women about what exactly makes them feel best and happiest in clothes. Based on the results of her studies and her knowledge of positive feedback and positive psychology, she compiled some suggestions for "Happy Clothes."
Here is an excerpt from Kate’s guide to “Happy Outfits”:
1. A well-cut favorite dress made of a beautiful fabric lifts your mood. A flared silhouette, for example, creates the ideal hip-to-waist ratio that's both feminine and comfortable.
2. A beautiful (eye-catching) piece of jewelry that distinguishes us as an individual and makes us feel special, as if we were wearing a medal.
3. Colors found in nature (like sky blue, leaf green, or sunny yellow) connect us to the natural world and give us an extra energy boost.
4. Mixing materials and styles, e.g., a leather jacket over a flowing dress, formal and informal pieces, old and new, gives us a kick because the brain enjoys new and surprising things.
5. Loose-fitting clothing and flat shoes allow us the unrestricted freedom of movement associated with a thirst for adventure and travel. Tight clothing and high heels have the opposite effect.
6. Just like old movies, vintage accessories like bags or belts connect us with stories from the past and give us a feeling of comfort.
7. Natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, silk and wool connect us with nature.
8. Any trend that harmonizes with who we really are and resonates with our inner self lifts our spirits.
9. Our smile is, of course, our most beautiful accessory.
And do you agree with Kate? I think some of her suggestions can definitely be applied to our tennis apparel.
Ultimately, of course, each of us can find out for ourselves what our personal happy clothes are.
